Years ago, a church in Singapore supported Bible League for the Japanese translation project. The church has outreach in Japan and funded a significant part of this project. They had never received the final product, the Japanese New Testament, and we haven’t had an active relationship with the church in some time. This seemed unfortunate, and this trip seemed a good opportunity to try to mend the situation. I planned to bring New testaments with me from Tokyo and visit this church on Sunday to hand them over with a personal thank you letter. I planned to visit their second service on Sunday and see what would happen.
I took a taxi to the church and was welcomed by two very nice church members. They shared about the ministry activities of this very active church in Singapore. They introduced me to one of the leaders of the church. Here’s what was very exciting: when I shared with them who I was and what I wanted to give them, they knew directly about this project and their involvement in it. They brought me to the senior pastor and I had the opportunity to share with him about the Japanese translation project and gave him the letter and 5 copies of the New Testament. I shared about the Old Testament translation process being launched the previous week.
I was happily surprised by the fact they directly knew about the project and although I came unannounced, they spent some time with me to talk and listen. It was good to worship with these Singaporean Christians who have supported us so generously. We will stay in touch with them.
Here’s a video demonstrating the impact the Japanese ERV has had on one church in Tokyo.
